Sports Injury Physiotherapy
At RRP Physiotherapy, some of the most common sports and gym-related injuries we see affect:
- Lower back
These issues can occur from excessive resistance, overloading, repetitive use or traumatic accidents.
We also see a wide variety of injuries related to sports such as football, rugby and AFL.
Sports Injury Rehab: Our Process
Sports injury rehabilitation is all about planning.
At RRP Physiotherapy we take the time to understand the individual person in front of us.
We place the utmost importance on returning them back to their sport of choice as soon as possible.
This process involves:
- Comprehensive assessment of the client’s injury.
- Discussion regarding optimal return to sport timeframes.
- Implementation of a thorough exercise-based program.
- Methodical physiotherapy treatments including hands-on techniques.
- Return to sport with research-backed tests to ensure re-injury risk is minimal.
Injury Recovery Process: Rest vs Rehabilitation
Resting an injury is helpful in the short-term especially if it is an ‘acute’ injury.
However, regardless of the injury, if proper rehabilitation isn’t completed, research shows that re-injury risk is significantly higher.
Additionally, a lot of people also notice that even after periods of resting an injury, re-injury commonly occurs with the same severity, if not worse, once they return to their chosen exercise.
It’s integral that people continue to move whilst they are injured and avoid the temptation of resting for most of the day.
This research-backed approach ensures that the injured area/s continue to heal efficiently, as your body recognises the normal movement patterns that the injured tissues usually complete.
Symptoms You May Experience during Injury Rehabilitation
As with any adaptation to the body, we need to constantly ‘challenge’ the body.
For injury rehabilitation, this will ensure optimal healing times and allow the client to return to sport in a timely manner.
The symptoms clients experience throughout the injury rehabilitation process will fluctuate. Common symptoms experienced during this time include:
- Pain/discomfort (within reason), and
- Tightness and stiffness.
If you are concerned about any adverse symptoms during your rehab, the team at RRP Physiotherapy encourage regular contact with your physiotherapist or health professional.
